Frequently Asked Questions

01.

What is Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.

We are an Asian-interest, but NOT Asian-exclusive sorority grounded in Sisterhood, Service, and Cultural Diversity. Represented by over 5000 sisters across the nation, we are dedicated to academic excellence, serving and supporting our communities, promoting cultural diversity, raising awareness through philanthropies that make a difference, and building lifelong friendships. We strive to start something within each individual that will change the world and grow their potential as leaders.

02.

Why join Kappas?

Every sister has a unique reason for joining Kappas, but there are many professional and personal benefits. Our everlasting sisterhood has allowed us to embrace a special relationship based on friendship, respect, and a shared vision. There's no sisterhood quite like the Kappa sisterhood, and we would love for you to get a chance to experience it yourself!

03.

What is recruitment/rush?

Rush is a two-week period filled with non-binding & free events to meet our sisters and learn about KPL. Our rush is entirely separate from all other rushes, but we encourage you to check out other sororities as well to see which best aligns with your values!

04.

What is Kappa & Co.

Our Spring '26 Rush theme, Kappa & Co., celebrates women empowerment through collective strength. In support and solidarity with each other, we lead by example to combat a world that often underestimates us. In building success on our own terms and setting our own agendas, we rise in unity as we redefine what power means.

05.

What is a GIM

A GIM, or General Interest Meeting, is an event specifically for learning more about who we are. From our history, to pillars, or involvement on campus, Kappas offers a range of opportunities for everlasting friendship and developing useful skills.

06.

What is a bid?

A bid is a formal invitation to join the Potential New Member Process of Kappa Phi Lambda. Bids are given to individuals with potential to flourish and grow along with our organization. To be considered for a bid, you must attend at least 2 non-GIM events and 1 General Interest Meeting, followed by an interview.

07.

How do I qualify for an interview?

To qualify for an interview, there is a requirement of attending at least 2 non-GIM events and 1 General Interest Meeting. However, we welcome you to come out to as many events as you are able to.

08.

What do I bring to rush?

We'll be providing all the materials but we encourage you to bring your unique energy & an open mind. Kappa & Co. showcases the strength and empowerment sisters have curated! All events are free & non-binding, so come out for a chance to make friends and learn about KPL. Just be yourself because we can't wait to meet you!

09.

Is there a GPA Requirement?

As we're all college students first, we prioritize our academic excellence. There is no GPA requirement for coming to rush, all UMass students are welcome to join in on the fun! However, the GPA requirement to qualify for an interview is a 2.7. We understand college classes can be challenging, but Kappas offers resources for our academic needs towards success.
